4:4 rythm accompanyment: reels and hornpipes

For the left hand, ee recommended the root of the chord for beat one and the third note of the chord for beat three.  For example, on a G chord that would be a G on beat one, then a (normally lower) D on beat three.  And interspersed on beats two and four in the right hand would be a G triad, in whatever form you can reach (closed for me: I have small hands) and in whatever inversion is convenient or esthetically pleasing.
