Main Parts of the Bow
Bow Stick, often made of pernambuco or brazilwood. The stick
will be either cylindrical or octagonal. At the frog end it is
octagonal.
Frog, at the heavier end of the bow, where you hold the bow
with your right hand.
Bow Hair. Normally made of horse hair. Runs from the frog of the bow
to the tip of the stick.
Bow Tip. The end of the stick opposite the end that attaches
to the frog.
Tension Screw. With a knob outside the frog end of the stick,
this long screw goes into the frog end of the stick, and
shreads into a T shaped fitting that screws into the top of the
frog. turning this screw slides the frog along the stick to
tighten or losen the bow hair.
Rember This. You must
losen the bow hair when the bow is not in use. As withe an
archery bow, leaving tension on the stick for an extended period will
warp the bow or reduce its elasticity. That is an expensive wast
of a bow.
