SILENT FINGER EXERCISES
These exercises will make it easier for you to play the
violin. The left-hand exercise is for finger independance,
whereas the right-hand exercise is for simultaneous movement of all
four fingers in the same direction.
For your left hand, you have your fingers straight, and alternate
between two finger spacings. In the first spacing, your
first and second fingers are close, your second and third fingers are
very far apart, and your third and fourth fingers are close..... a la
the 'Live long and Prosper' sign on Star Trek. In the second
finger spacing, your first and second fingers are far apart, your
second and third fingers are close, and your third and fourth fingers
are far apart. Keep alternatintg between these two finger
spacings, and work at ita little each day for a year or so.
The
right-hand exercise is for a correlated motion of all fingers to the
left or to the rifght. This will allow you to move the bow with
your fingers while your arm is changing from up-0bow to down-bow, or
visa versa, making a smoother transition from one direction to the
other.
