PARTS OF THE VIOLIN

A violin has  these parts that I'm aware of:

a carved top, normally of spruce,

a carved back normally made of maple, sides of maple,

a neck (not sure what wood is in the neck usually),

fingerboard, tuning pegs and tail piece normally made of ebony,

a bridge the strings pass over,

a chin rest,

a tail button with a strong piece of gut that anchors the tail piece to the tail button,

metal fine tuners often mounted on the tail piece

a base bar inside the top under the G string side of the bridge,

and a sound post that runs between top and bottom, near the foot on the E string side of the bridge.

I'm sure the violin has other inside pieces that I'm not aware of.

There are books on violin building and repair.  I've seen several by Harry Strobel, among others, and on ebay, believe it or not.
